President Medvedev to attend APEC summit in Peru in November
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will attend the summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation organization in Peru on November 22-23, the Kremlin's press service said on Sunday.

The president has sent a telegram to Peruvian President Alan Garcia confirming his participation in the 16th APEC summit to be held in Lima, the capital of Peru.

"I hope that our joint work during the upcoming summit in Lima will bring positive results," Medvedev said.

ludes Russia, the United States, China, Japan, South Korea and Australia. Member states account for 60% of the world's economy and around half of global trade.

The Russian president expressed hope that the participants of the summit "will have a constructive dialogue on the wide range of measures aimed at sustained development of the Asia-Pacific region."

"One of the key aspects in this respect is the search for best solutions for such urgent problems as the prices for food and energy resources, the climate change," he said in his telegram.

He also stressed the importance of regional integration and cooperation in dealing with current threats and challenges, including regional and global stability and security, international terrorism, pandemics and natural disasters.

One of the most highly anticipated events of the APEC summit in Lima is the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) for the Asia-Pacific Region, which will be established through the analysis of different bilateral or multilateral FTAs previously signed by APEC member countries.
