RAN.
Under the new RAN charter, "the president, elected by the general meeting, assumes office following approval by the Russian president."
The winner performs the functions of RAN President in the capacity of acting RAN president, prior to approval by the Russian president.
Osipov was elected RAN president in 1991, and re-elected in 1996 and 2001.
In 2006, a decision was made to extend his powers until the endorsement of the new RAN charter. The document was endorsed last November.
