Zenit fan stabbed in Manchester after UEFA Cup final
A Zenit St. Petersburg supporter was stabbed in the back in the City of Manchester stadium after his club's victory in the UEFA Cup final on Wednesday.

"Six Rangers supporters were arrested at the stadium after a Russian fan was stabbed in the back," Greater Manchester Police announced in a statement. They added that his injuries were not life-threatening.

Some 100,000 Scottish supporters had descended upon Manchester to cheer on their side in their first European final since 1972, the majority watching the match on screens set up around the city. However, trouble flared between police and supporters when a screen in the center of the city broke down shortly after kick off.

Assistant Chief Constable Justine Curran said: "A minority of thugs have overshadowed what should have been a great occasion. I've watched them commit damage, assault my officers and I'm really sickened and disappointed."

"The Russian fans have been a lot better behaved than the Scottish supporters," said Vitaly Mutko, Russia's newly appointed sports minister, before the game.

Zenit lifted their first major European trophy after beating Rangers 2-0.

At least 40,000 English fans are expected in Moscow on May 21 for the Champions league final between Chelsea and Manchester United.
