Russian tycoon Usmanov ranked 5th on Britain's rich list
Russian tycoon Alisher Usmanov has been ranked as the 5th wealthiest person in Britain according to The Sunday Times Rich List published on Sunday.

Usmanov, a Kremlin-friendly tycoon with interests in mining, steel, media and banking; was placed on the list of the richest 1,000 people in Britain after becoming the largest shareholder in Arsenal football club. Usmanov's worth is estimated at 5.7 billion British pounds ($11 billion), the paper said.

The list, which includes persons born or based in the U.K., shows that the native British are being overtaken by foreign billionaires, with only six of the top 20 born in Britain, the paper said.

Indian-born steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal whose fortune has rocketed to 27.7 billion British pounds ($55 billion) from last year's 19.25 billion British pounds ($38 billion) is the wealthiest man in Britain, The Sunday Times said.

"Mittal is now the sixth richest person in the world and far ahead of any other billionaire in Britain," the paper said.

He is followed by Roman Abramovich, the Russian owner of Chelsea football club, on 11.7 billion British pounds ($23 billion), and the Duke of Westminster on 7 billion British pounds ($13.9 billion), the paper said.
