Three gunmen nabbed in Chechnya, including former warlord
Three gunmen were detained in Chechnya, including former chief of the General Staff of the so-called Ichkeria republic, Itar-Tass learnt at the republican Interior Ministry on Tuesday.
According to the republican Interior Ministry, “Alkhazar Abuyev who headed the General Staff of the so-called Ichkeria republic between February 1997 and October 1998, decided to surrender voluntarily as a result of an operation, carried out in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny by officers of the Russian Interior Ministry and of the Akhmat Kadyrov regiment”.
A man, suspected of participating in an attack on the village of Alkhazurovo on last March 19, was detained in the Urus-Martan district at a bus stop in the village of Gekhi-Chu. “The detained resident of the village of Roshni-Chu made confessions that starting from March 2008, he had been a member of an armed gang, led by Chingiskhan Gishayev, and voluntarily showed a cache in a forest, wherefrom his Kalashnikov submachinegun and cartridges were taken,” the republican Interior Ministry reported.
Besides, a resident of the village of Assinovskaya was apprehended in the Sunzha district. He had on him an audiocassette with a recording of telephone reports by gunmen. “He also confessed that starting from last March, he was an underling of an armed gang, led by a resident of Bamut village, known under the nickname “Valid”.
