Orthodox Christians will celebrate worldwide the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem that is also called the Palm Sunday. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II will lead a divine liturgy at the Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow on Sunday.
This day reminds people of the event, which took place two millenniums ago, when Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem several days before his sufferings of crucifixion. People greeted him with flowers, and children paved his way with palm branches. In the East the custom to hold a cross-bearing procession with newborns is still observed on this day. In Moscow this touching procession is held at the metochion of the Patriarchate of Antioch at the Church of Archangel Michael near the Chistye Prudy boulevards in downtown Moscow.
