Russia’s n-plants beat power production record 2007
Russia’s president-elect Dmitry Medvedev and chief of the atomic power corporation Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko, have discussed preparations for a forthcoming meeting of the State Council’s presidium.
Medvedev asked Kiriyenko to brief him on progress in forming the corporation’s structure. Also, he raised the theme of innovations in the atomic energy industry in connection with the forthcoming meeting of the State Council’s presidium.

uced a record amount of electricity – 155 billion kilowatt-hours.
The result was achieved without building more nuclear power reactors. Their construction was suspended fifteen years ago.
The increase was achieved mostly by enhancing the effectiveness of management, and not to the detriment of security requirements. On the contrary, the nuclear power plants’ safety has grown, Kiriyenko said.
The Rosatom chief said that the past five years saw no any significant incidents at nuclear power plants.
“We keep a close watch on any deviations, and these have been reducing, too,” he said.
In the first quarter of this year Russia’s nuclear power plants’ production was up 5.9 percent on the year.
