Russian national soccer team gets new strip
The Russian national soccer team is to play at Euro 2008, due to kick off in June in Austria and Switzerland, in a brand new strip.

The new strip was designed by Nike and was presented in Moscow on Monday.

According to Nike, the new kit was inspired by the strip worn by the legendary U.S.S.R. side in the 1960s. Russia's new home strip will be mainly white and the away version dominated by red. The collars will be dark blue with golden trim on the sleeves. The shorts are the colors of the Russian flag.

ust keep getting better," said Igor Semshov, a national side midfield player. "It fits right onto your body, with no discomfort at all," he added.

Russia will face Spain in the opening match of Euro 2008 on June 10 in their new 'home' strip. The next two games, against Greece on June 14 and Sweden on June 18, will see Russia in red.

The Russian national side has not qualified from the group stages of a major tournament since the break up of the Soviet Union. However, the recent major investment in the game and the appointment of Dutch trainer Guus Hiddink in 2006 has done much to raise expectations. It remains to be seen however if the 'U.S.S.R.-inspired kit' will be able to equally inspire Russia's players in Austria and Switzerland.
