Sochi to commission first Olympic site in late 2008
A sport medical rehabilitation center will be the first sport facility Sochi will commission at the end of 2008, chief of the Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sports Vyacheslav Fetisov said on Wednesday. He delivered a speech during a question-and-answer government session in the State Duma that was devoted to the preparation to the Olympics.
This center will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical rehabilitation equipment and will be the first similar sport medical rehabilitation center in Russia, Fetisov said.
Russian Olympic sportsmen will use the center for the run-up to other Olympic Games, not only in Sochi, Fetisov said.
Fetisov also pledged that all 20 sport sites will have been built by the Olympics-2014.
Meanwhile, some 180,000 workers will build all Olympic sites, Minister of Regional Development Dmitry Kozak said at a question-and-answer government session in the State Duma.
“Today we together with the Sochi city authorities and the authorities of the Krasnodar territory we are discussing a possible accommodation of these workers,” he said.
Meanwhile, “We are considering necessary security measures in Sochi, not only during the Olympics, but also during the construction of Olympic sites.”
Along with those agencies that operate under the law, we established a large-scale interdepartmental coordination headquarters, in which almost all federal agencies were involved. “We are considering and deciding on all issues of life-supporting facilities in Sochi during the construction period,” Kozak pledged.
At its first and second meetings this coordination headquarters also gave priority to a pending process for informing Sochi residents about all events that are held during the construction of Olympic sites, the minister reported
