Polling stations close in Russia Kamchatka, Chukotka
All 59 polling stations closed in Russia’ s Chukotka at 8 pm, local time (11 am, Moscow time) on Sunday. According to Chukotka’s electoral commission, the voter turnout was 83.35 percent half-an-hour before the polling stations closed, which is ten percent more than at the December 2007 election to the State Duma lower house of parliament.
No incidents of violations were registered in Chukotka.
On the Kamchatka peninsula, the voter turnout was almost the same as in the Duma election. According to the regional electoral commission, 55.82 percent of eligible voters had cast ballots by 7 pm, local time, one hour before the end of the voting. No major violations were registered, and there were no complaints to the electoral commission.
Preliminary results on the voting are expected by 8 am, local time, on Monday (11 pm, Moscow time, on Sunday).
