Alexy II appreciates Laurus’ contribution in church reunion
Patriarch of Moscow and All-Russia Alexy II congratulated Metropolitan Laurus of Eastern America and New York, the first Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), on his 80th birthday on Tuesday.
The patriarch’s congratulatory message says: “Today’s memorable date is one more occasion to point out your life, your pastoral achievements and your evident and substantial contribution to the reconciliation of the Russian Orthodox Church.”

assumed unity motivates the church to pray about sending physical “strength and Almighty God’s help in the blessed dispensation of the flock” to His Beatitude Laurus.
The supreme hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church expressed the hope that he will meet Metropolitan Laurus in Moscow in February 2008.
The ROCOR hierarch is expected to arrive in Moscow for receiving the highest award of the Council of Russian compatriots, which will be handed to him by Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov.
