Russian translation of final Harry Potter book to hit Moscow
Five of Moscow's leading bookstores will begin selling the Russian translation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series, at midnight, on October 13.
The average cost of the book, written by British author J.K. Rowling, is expected to be slightly more than 300 rubles ($12), and the ROSMAN publishing house expects to sell 1.8 million copies in its first week. A second edition of 200,000 books is currently being printed.
The company took unprecedented measures to prevent possible plot leaks, including enhanced security at warehouses and tough control over bookshops. Moreover, the company's security service monitored mailboxes of its employees engaged in producing the Russian version of the book.
The publishing house's press service said it organized a number of events to make the first day of sales "a real holiday and an outstanding event for all Russia".
The last Harry Potter book was released in English by Bloomsbury on July 21, 2007.
Due to the lack of a suitable 'h' sound in the Russian language, Harry Potter is pronounced "Garry" Potter by Russian speakers.
