A working meeting was held in the alpine skiing site of Krasnaya Polyana to discuss nomination of the resort city of Sochi to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, the Krasnodar Territorys Governor Alexander Tkachov told Itar-Tass.
The meeting was held with the participation of presidential envoy to the Southern Russian region Dmitri Kozak, Russian Olympic Committee Chairman Leonid Tyagachov and the citys Mayor Viktor Kolodyazhny.
The meeting participants were unanimous in the view that Krasnaya Polyana had go | Ads |  | od chances to be a site of Olympics. It has a complex built specially to hold sport games.
Construction of a highway will be completed in the near future to link the site with the Black Sea coast.
The meeting noted that the nature was unique in Krasnaya Polyana to allow holding all alpine skiing competitions on one mountain slope.
All the skiing routes and sport installations for Olympics are built there according to international standards, and nothing must be reconstructed there, the governor noted.
Sochi has great experience to have guests. The city receives up to six million tourists a year, Tkachov said.
The formal application to be among contenders to host the 2014 Olympics must be ready by late July.
Sochi was a contender to host the 2002 Olympics, but could not win.
The present level of the alpine skiing resort is quite other, Tkachov assured.
