An IOC commission visited Tuesday the basic sports facilities in Moscow bidding for the right to host the 2012 Games. On their itinerary were the Bitza equestrian complex, the Luzhniki stadium, the Shelepikhinskaya embankment where an Olympic village, an international broadcasting center and the Main press-center are to be built. The IOC guests even had a ride in the Moscow subway, from Prospekt Vernadskogo station to Vorbyovy Hills, the worlds only metro station located above the river, the sight of which impressed the inspectors immensely, said Dmitry Svatkovsky, the sports director of the Moscow 2012 Bidding committee.
The Bidding Committees chief aim was to show the IOC delegates that two thirds of sports facilities had been already built, including the main stadium and venue of holding opening and closing ceremonies in the Olympic park "Luzhniki".
To reveal the opinion of athletes, ten Russian Olympic champio | Ads |  | ns joined the commission in its tour about the facilities.
"I am sure that the Moscow grounds we visited appealed to the members of the commission," said Moscow Vice-Mayor Valery Shantsev, chairman of the Bidding Committee Moscow 2012.
The area under the construction of Olympic facilities has been already allotted and permit to start work granted. A spectacular tennis court named after Juan Antonio Samaranch will be built anyway, no matter whether Moscow will be entitled to host the Olympic events or not.
On the third day of the work of the commission, March 16, presentations on the political and economic situation in the country and on security measures will be held.
