TNK-BP has filed an appeal against the results of investigations of tax payment practices for 2001 with the Moscow Arbitration Court, the press department of the Russian-British joint venture said in a released statement. A corresponding trial will be held in February, a source close to the company said. Russian tax authorities claimed that the company owes RUR2.5bn (about USD89m) in overdue taxes for 2001. They investigated activities of TNK in 2001.
According to non-official data, similar investigations have been launched in a number of oil companies such as Rosneft, Slavneft, Sibneft and Tatneft.
