The Moscow City Court upheld a verdict of a lower court that was the reason for filing a criminal case against YUKOS lawyer Dmitriy Gololobov. Earlier Gololobov told RBC that charges had been filed against him in connection with the so-called "case of the Eastern Oil Company." Specifically, the lawyer is accused of misappropriation of shares in a number of enterprises. The prosecution believes that the lawyer had developed a plan for assigning these shares, intended to protect them from being frozen by court. Gololobov was put on the federal and internat| Ads | | ional wanted lists after a court in Moscow sanctioned his arrest at a request from the General Prosecutors Office on November 12, 2004.
Gololobov noted that the investigation of the "Eastern Oil Company case" had started four years ago, and he represented the companys interests in connection with this case. The YUKOS lawyer underscored that shares that he had allegedly stolen belonged to YUKOS and were frozen by court bailiffs in the process of collecting taxes from the company. Gololobov believes that a criminal case against him personally was reopened only because he is a lawyer for YUKOS, who "is actively defending the companys interests in court and in law enforcement agencies." The lawyer is convinced that the criminal case against him was fabricated for political reasons.
