The number of residents with incomes below the subsistence minimum decreased by 2.8 percent to 28.8m over January-September, 2004, compared to the 2003 level. This number makes up 20.1 percent of Russia’s population, the Federal State Statistics Service reported.

01.12.2004 - Ever more Russian babies are born out of wedlock
Ten years ago they accounted for a mere 14.6 per cent of the total, and now make more than 30 per cent, says Mikhail Zurabov, federal Minister of Health and Social Development. 10 per cent of Russian couples are living unwedded, according to the latest statistics quoted by the Moscow-based daily, Trud.
