Russia has expressed gratitude to Norway for the rescue of Russian fishermen shipwrecked in the Barents Sea, reported the information and press department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"This event reaffirmed the efficiency of Russian-Norwegian interaction in emergency situation in severe northern conditions," the department said.

In the small hours of December 1 a Norwegian rescue team saved 18 out of 20 crewmen of the Russian Malakhit fishing boat (Murmansk), which was shipwrecked in the stormy Barents Sea to the

south-west of Medvezhy Island. The bodies of two dead sailors were found.
