Viktor Yanukovych, whom the Ukrainian Central Elections Commission declared the elected president, called on his supporters at a rally at the Vokzalna Square in Kyiv to remain patient.
"I would like you to live in peace, so that blood should on no account be spilled because of our actions," Yanukovych said.
"The life of each person is dear to me, and I do not need any power if blood is spilled," he said.
