German Ambassador to Russia Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz said at a press conference at Itar-Tass on Thursday that the agreement on simplification of mutual trips of Russian and German citizens will “promote bilateral contacts, first of all between young people.
The ambassador pointed out “an analogous agreement is being prepared between Russia and the European Union.”
“The talks on the agreement are underway and it will be signed in the near future,” Ploetz said.
In accordance with the Russ | Ads |  | ian-German agreement, a simplified visa issuance procedure is being introduced on a reciprocal basis for a number of categories of citizens within the framework of youth exchanges, contacts in the sphere of culture, science, education, sports and business between the two countries.
Ploetz also said the signing of the Russian-German agreement on transit makes it possible to speak about “the emergence of new relations in the security sphere” between the two states.
The ambassador said this agreement “allows conducting transit military transportations of German hardware and servicemen to Afghanistan through the Russian territory.”
“It is for the first time that Russia has concluded such an agreement with a foreign state,” the diplomat noted. “And this state is Germany.”
“This ensures bilateral dialogue in close cooperation in the sphere of the defence industry and high technology,” the ambassador stressed.
