Official Minsk charges US with aggravation of bilateral relations
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has called the law on democracy in Belarus adopted by the United States “a conspicuously unfriendly step.”

The law was signed by U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday.

In a statement circulated here by the Belarussian Foreign Ministry on Thursday it is said, in particular, “the responsibility for aggravating the bilateral relations fully rests with the United States.”

geted recently at conscious aggravation of relations with Belarus Republic and at pushing its allies towards the same,” it is pointed out in the document.

“We reject any attempts of dictate and pressure on the part of the United States. In the developed situation the Belarussian side reserves the right to take response measures,” the Belarussian Foreign Ministry statement stresses.

The law signed by the U.S. president on Wednesday envisions the introduction of economic sanctions against Belarus.

In accordance with the law, the United States will also provide assistance to Belarussian oppositional mass media and political parties that support the development of democracy and protection of human rights.

In addition, the American side intends to promote the expansion of broadcasting of the Voice of America radio station in the Belarussian language.
