The Russian national soccer team has leapt up the latest FIFA World Rankings, published on Wednesday, moving up ten positions up from 26th to 16th place.

Russia currently boasts 960 points, its advancement mainly down to a 2-1 victory in a Euro 2008 qualifier against England last Wednesday. England dropped two positions and now occupies 11th place in the FIFA rankings.

This is the second time this year that Russia has occupied 16th place in the FIFA World Rankings, holding the same position in April, with 901 points. However, prior to this, the last time Russia was in the Top 20 was in August, 2001.

Russia's highest-ever position in the ranking list was in April and May of 1996, when it held third position.
