Russia takes 1st victory at 2008 Euro Cup qualifiers
Russia takes 1st victory at 2008 Euro Cup qualifiers The Russian soccer team took its first victory at the 2008 Euro Cup qualifiers after defeating Estonia 2-0.

The score was opened in the second half by forward Pavel Pogrebnyak in the seventy-eighth minute. Twelve minutes later, forward Dmitry Sychyov scored the second goal for the Russian team.

In its battle to reach the Euro-2008 finals, Russia, which plays in Group E and now has five points, is facing teams from Croatia, England, Andorra, Estonia, Macedonia and Israel.

Russia's national team failed to qualify for this year's World Cup in Germany, but Russian fans expect the new Dutch coach, Guus Hiddink, who previously guided South Korea and Australia to unprecedented successes, to take the team to the Euro-2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

The Russian team has already played three matches in the qualifying round, finishing two games in a draw against the Croatian and Israeli teams, and winning against Estonia.
