CSKA Moscow coach Valery Gazzayev is happy that two Russian clubs will play in the Champions' League next season
CSKA Moscow coach Valery Gazzayev is happy that two Russian clubs will play in the Champions' League next season

When answering a RIA Novosti question at the post-match press conference following his side's 3:1 away win against Paris Saint German last night, Gazzayev admitted that he was experiencing "mixed feelings."

"I am happy with my team's brilliant performance, but it's a great shame that we haven't made it through to the next round of the Champions' League even though we did everything possible in today's match," he said.

In Gazzayev's opinion, his charges controlled the entire match right from the kick off. "We understood that only victory would do, so we chose the appropriate tactics and players," the coach said. "The game plan was strictly followed."

The CSKA coach learned that group leader Chelsea had lost 2:1 to Porto. "We knew that the English were leading at half time and hoped that they would at least have a draw in their pockets," he said.

Gazzayev said that everyone in the stadium and millions of Russians knew that Sergei Semak, who scored a hat trick, was obviously the outstanding player in the encounter.

The coach also said that he did not have any magic formula when it came to playing against French clubs, but he hoped that his winning ways would continue in the future.

When talking about his plans for next season, Gazzayev stressed that CSKA was now in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup and had to make progress in that competition. "We simply have to know who will play against in the UEFA Cup," he said.

About 500 CSKA fans made the trip from Moscow to Paris, but they were not involved in any incidents. PSG fans, though, began booing their own players before the final whistle and even set two club flags on fire. At the same time, the Parisians applauded the away team.
