The press attaché of Moscow's CSKA soccer club, Sergei Aksenov, has denied that captain Sergei Semak is about to be sold to Monaco.
A British channel, Sky Sports, reported on Thursday that Monaco had been given the chance to buy Semak, who scored a hat trick on Tuesday in Champions' League match against Paris Saint Germain (CSKA won 3:1 and finished third in the group after Chelsea and Porto, and will now play in the UEFA Cup).
Reports suggest that Monaco have been offered the 28-year-old for three million euros. However, this figure is likely to dampen the club's enthusiasm for the CSKA captain, though French rivals Marseilles have also shown an interest and have the necessary funds.
Monaco chairman was impressed with Semak on Tuesday night and remarked that he was "a very good player."
In a telephone interview with RIA Novosti, Aksenov denied that the club was about to sell Semak. "Sergei has two years left to run on his contract with CSKA and his career with the club basically depends on the player himself and the club president," the press attaché said. He added that Semak did not have an agent and that the club's management alone would deal with his affairs.
