Chief Geologist - KAZAKHSTAN

Our client is a diversified international resource company listed in Europe. With multiple operations in Kazakhstan - more than 15 open pit mines, 9 concentrators, and two refining and smelting complexes, they are in the top ten primary metals producers in the world.
Our client has recently committed to further develop two copper molybdenum projects involving 2 large low grade porphyry deposits and concentrator development to be mine by open pit methods. Combined, the planned ore production rate is more than 80million tpa.
YOUR ROLE....
The Chief Geologist will be based residentially in Kazakhstan and will work with the project leader who has the line responsibility for delivering the projects.
The responsibilities will include:
• Defining and organising exploration programmes
• Coordinating land access and permitting requirements
• Developing drilling, sampling and assay programs
• Supervision of the geological field works
• Developing ore body database and computer 3D model
• Interpretation of the results and resource estimation
YOU WILL BE.....
•Have tertiary qualification in geology or related degree.
•Have 10-15 years experience with particular emphasis on large copper porphyry deposits.
•Have an understanding of the Kazakh geology and mining regulatory/reporting system.
•Exposure to Western work practices and reporting standards (JORC) is important.
Prior experience in the FSU along with Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, or Uzbek language skills would be HIGHLY advantageous.

The appointed candidate will be integral to a small, highly motivated team, based in Kazakhstan
There is a need for a Metallurgical Planning Executive for 6 to 12 months. The successful candidate will gather and analyse data, creating “what if “ scenarios and modelling twenty year plans for their existing mines, concentrators and smelters.
YOU WILL BE.....
•Professionally qualified (e.g. AusIMM, P. Geo, EurGeol.), the appointed candidate will have extensive international experience of large scale exploration and development programs.
•The successful candidate will have a thorough working knowledge of the latest leading edge methods/technologies used in resource calculation and mine – modelling.
•Preferred experience includes sediment hosted copper, porphyry copper molybdenum, gold, volcanogenic massive sulphide, nickel sulphide or oxide.
Prior experience in the FSU along with Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, or Uzbek language skills would be HIGHLY advantageous.

Key Accountabilities
Your role as the Project Manager is to support our client’s growth component of its strategic plan by managing, leading and controlling the project execution team that is established to carry out a technical evaluation and financial valuation of a Gold resource. The project team will include technical and non-technical consultants and experts that will undertake work within the areas and disciplines of their expertise. The incumbent will manage and co-ordinate the work of the team members so as to ensure that criteria set by the client is met and that the deliverables are achieved within program and budget.
•Establish, manage, lead and control a team of technical a non-technical consultants and experts required to execute to a point of completing a Pre-feasibility / Feasibility study.
•Establish project objectives and organize teams to conduct design and field work on the exploration properties
•Establish and manage project budgets and priorities, ensuring accurate and timely budget control and planning systems
•Coordinate our client’s Resources Estimation experts on resource estimation models to provide the resource estimates for the exploration and feasibility project.
•Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure resources estimated are appropriate for various mining methods
•Effectively manage the project in areas of: performance management, compensation, international service, professional development and succession planning
•Design, implement and uphold policies and procedures ensuring all project and resources estimation initiatives are consistent with the Exploration strategy, Sustainability Policy, Business Code of Conduct, Costing and estimating systems and design Codes
•Submission of a Pre-feasibility / Feasibility study document that is within budget, program and satisfies our client’s codes, criteria and format.
To be considered, you must have:
•B.Sc. or technical Diploma in engineering. Mining, metallurgy, geology, mechanical or electrical engineering will satisfy the requirements of the position.
•Tertiary training and practical experience in project management processes and feasibility studies.
•15 years minimum, comprehensive exposure to general engineering processes and techniques within the metallurgical, open pit and underground-mechanized mining environment.
•Experience within the Gold Open pit and Underground mining and process industry
•10 years minimum, management position
•Demonstrated leadership ability and effective oral and written communication skills

Pre-requisites

Our client has major new projects underway in the FSU. We are urgently seeking a Senior Project Metallurgist.
In this role, the successful candidate will be required to provide metallurgist support to the exploration and resource geology groups with a focus on test work and project assessment. This is a senior role, requiring the successful candidate to be self managed.
The Senior Metallurgist is responsible for providing project management and senior technical participation in process development for base metal and/or precious metal mining projects. This individual may also assist other divisions with respect to process systems in industrial plants for other facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be in charge of the entire metallurgy team and will be assigned a variety of duties including:
•Optimizing concentrator metallurgical performance;
•Perform all duties within relevant occupational health and safety guidelines and policies and following relevant procedures documented in the quality assurance system.
•May contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for metallurgical testing.
•Competent working knowledge of the quality assurance systems and use of the system in undertaking various tasks.
•Total responsibility for quality and validity of results.
•Updating, maintaining, and communicating control plans, directives, and operating procedures with production and maintenance teams;
•Design flowsheets for lab scale or pilot plant operations.
•Implementing and/or coordinating technical projects
•Approving sampling, sample preparation, and analytical methods to obtain a good metallurgical mass balance;
•Carry out data entry, calculate test results and check quality for inclusion in the technical report.
Qualifications Required:
•A degree in Mineral Processing or Metallurgy
•Demonstrated experience (min 3 years) in a senior operations at a supervisory level
•Extensive exposure to managing contractors/ teams
•8 years demonstrated experience in Gold and copper metallurgical process
•Experience in MS Word and Excel;
•Sound verbal and written communications at all levels
•Be a great team player.
